About the Journal

Journal of Oriental Studies has been published since 2006. Journal is the successor of the  "Problems of Oriental Studies", proceedings of the interuniversity scholarly articles and "Oriental Collection" (2004)  published by the Ministry of Higher and Vocational Secondary Education of the Armenian SSR (1983-2004).  JOS is an interdisciplinary and interregional academic journal edited by the Faculty of Oriental Studies of YSU. 

Focus and Scope

 Journal of Oriental Studies deals with Arabic Countries, Iran, Central Asia, Turkey (the Ottoman Empire), and the Caucasus.

We publish research articles on diverse topics related to the fields of history, religion, linguistics, literature, archaeology, social and cultural anthropology of the Middle East as well as Genocide and Diaspora Studies.

The journal is involved in the list of peer-reviewed journals approved by the state commission on higher education.

All papers published are placed on the website of the Yerevan State University, openly and freely accessible to the academic community. Submission and publication of the manuscripts are free of charge.

Publication Frequency

Journal of Oriental studies is published twice a year and contains research articles, research notes and book reviews.

Journal of Oriental Studies accepts original, yet unpublished submissions in Armenian, Russian and English.

We accept not only the articles submitted by renowned scholars but also by young outstanding researchers.

Peer-reviewing process

All articles published in Journal of Oriental Studies are subject to a double-blind peer review process. Reviewers are renowned professors and postdocs in the respective field of study and their reviews serve to guarantee the high academic standards of our journal.

The manuscript undergoes initial review and verification for compliance to the topics of the Journal and the formal requirements. If the article does not comply with the topics of the Journal, it is excluded from revision, and the author is being notified about it.

Reviewers recommend the rejection, acceptance, or revision of submitted papers. 

The process of reviewing and approving manuscripts takes from 2 to 3 months, after which they are published on a first-approves, first-published basis.

Open Access

Open Access is a common practice of providing unrestricted Internet access to peer-reviewed scientific journals. Open access increases the ability to read publications and recognize authors for their contributions in their chosen field and even beyond.

The Journal of Oriental Studies is a peer reviewed open access journal. Peer review is realised under the responsibility of the Editorial Board of the Journal.

All content published online will be immediately and permanently available and free to read, download, copy and distribute.
