The journal Education in the 21st Century adheres to the COPE Guidelines on Authorship and Contributorship to ensure the transparent attribution of academic credit and the assignment of corresponding accountability.
1. Criteria for Authorship
Authorship is limited to individuals who meet all four of the following criteria:
-
Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of empirical data.
-
Drafting the manuscript or revising it critically for essential intellectual content.
-
Final approval of the version to be published.
-
Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work, ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the manuscript are appropriately investigated and resolved.
The journal mandates the application of the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT) to precisely define each author’s specific structural contribution to the research.
2. Contributorship and Acknowledgments
Individuals who participated in the research or manuscript preparation but do not meet all four criteria for authorship must not be designated as authors. Their contributions (e.g., funding acquisition, general administrative supervision, or language editing) must be recognized exclusively in the "Acknowledgments" section. Authors are required to obtain written permission from all acknowledged individuals prior to submission.
3. Alterations to Authorship
Any request to add, delete, or rearrange author names subsequent to the initial submission must be formally submitted to the Editor-in-Chief. The request must encompass a definitive justification for the proposed alteration and written confirmation (via official email or signed document) from all original authors, including those being added or removed, signifying their unanimous consent. The journal adjudicates such requests in strict accordance with the designated COPE Flowcharts. Alterations to the authorship list are categorically prohibited after a manuscript has been formally accepted for publication.
