Abstract

Communication is the main function of language but we must not forget that it will be incomplete if what we say is incomprehensible for the hearer. One of the most important and fundamental skills in language learning is listening, its importance for our daily communication cannot be overestimated. Listening is the most common type of communication, so scientists are trying to find appropriate methods for teaching it. The paper touches upon the two basic methods of foreign language teaching (top-down and bottom-up) and their use in classroom.
