Abstract

Ernest Hemingway's short stories are often a description of light and darkness. The paper discusses how, in what way and in what order the author uses these descriptions. The short prose of Hemingway tries to highlight the contrasts between light and darkness as well as life and death. The symbolic parallels of light and darkness, life and death appear in the paper. It also reflects the psychological effect of the darkness and the night on the writer's personal and creative life.
