IS RETROSPECTION AN INTRA- OR EXTRA-TEXTUAL CATEGORY?

Abstract

The paper deals with the category of retrospection as a means of temporal development of the intra-textual mechanism. Both types of retrospection – intra-textual and extra-textual are analyzed in the paper as mutually supportive and interdependent categories.
Special attention is paid to the functions, the extra-textual category performs for textual temporal design: formation of different types of information (factual and conceptual) within the text, author's modality and model meaning exposure and the establishment of certain connection in-between the intra-textual retrospection and extra-textual socio-historical actual facts.
