Abstract

The paper discusses parallel uses of the inflections -а and -у in the masculine words in genitive case singular on the material of the preserved essays of the XVIII century publicist I.T. Pososhkov. In particular, the paper touches upon the reasons for the presence of two types of endings in the studied works, the limited use of inflection and the functioning of the genitive case in -у/-ю and -a/-я in modern Russian language.
