ОN THE STATUS OF NEW LEXICAL UNITS IN CONTEMPORARY RUSSIAN

Abstract

This paper discusses the issue of new lexical units in Russian. Some terms such as “новшество”, “нововведение”, “новация”, “инновация”, “новообразование”, “неологизм”, “потенциальное слово”, “окказионализм” have become the object of the study. The paper examines the question of the correlation between the deep meaning of the terms accepted in the Russian linguistic tradition to denote new lexical units and the phenomena indicated by these terms. It also presents general propositions and some considerations concerning the status of the new lexical units.
