Abstract

“The Late Matthias Pascal” is an allegorical novel about person’s identity and death. In “The Late Mattia Pascal” Pirandello questions the stability of human identity. Mattia becomes a participant in unpredictable and inevitable events, trying to interpret them. The paper demonstrates how the loss of Mattia's identity affects his internal world and creates external struggles with the society. Pirandello's work reflects his great interest in philosophy and psychology. The play raises topics that go deep into these fields interpreting them through artistic perspective.
