Abstract

The paper studies the peculiarities of consecutive interpreting in view of the theories and methods put forth by various translation scholars. It attempts to shed light on the mental operations that take place while interpreting and highlights the obstacles and challenges that interpreters face during that complex process. The paper also examines the common methods and strategies applied to interpreter training and proposes new ones alongside some exercises that can be used to provide learners with adequate training and required degree of skill. The choice of exercises is based on the Effort Model, proposed by D. Gile, which points to the main processes on which interpreters spend most of their mental energy.
