    R.S. Movsesyan, A.L. Gyurjyan
    View PDF
    Abstract

Studies conducted in a region with a wide development of crypto structures and a geological and structural analysis of the results made it possible to identify patterns of localization of mineralization. This made it possible to explain the position of the ore fields, to outline them, to quantify the estimated resources. The application of a similar approach in other areas may increase the efficiency of geological exploration.

SOME ISSUES OF DETERMINING THE MAXIMUM SHEAR RESISTANCE OF THE LAYERED SOILS

    S.H. Hayroyan, H.S. Hayroyan
    View PDF
    Abstract

The article discusses some issues of determining the shear resistance of the layered soils. The problem of determining the maximum shear resistances when the shear stresses are perpendicular to the layering is considered. It has been theoretically shown that when shear stresses act perpendicular to layering, tensile strength is achieved at lower values of shear stress than the total shear resistance. When determining the stability of a slope composed of layered soils, it is proposed to take the maximum shear resistance values of laboratory tests.

    Abstract

The work is dedicated on the second zone of sanitary protection problem, by using the example of fresh water springs which are exploided for water supply of Ashtarak and Ejmiatsin towns (Karbi and Ghazaravan springs). We calculated the second border of the zones of sanitary protection, which is the main problem for the pollution of springs. It will give an opportunity to keep fresh water springs away from the pollution by restriction of human activity.

SEISMOTECTONIC ANALYSIS OF VIRAAYOTS-KARABAKH ZONE WITH THE AIM OF HIGHLIGHTING OF THE EARTHQUAKE PRONE BLOCKS

    K.S. Ghazaryan, R.S. Sargsyan
    View PDF
    Abstract

In this article seismotectonic activity of Viraayots-Karabakh (Somkheto-Kapan) geotectonic zone was analysied. Using modern tectonic-geomorphological methods, the Neotectonic (Neogene-Quaternary) activity of blocks was analyzed and they were classified according to this indicator. As the block model of the territory a large-scale scheme of morphostructural zoning of the territory of Armenia was used, which shows all main lineament-block formations of the territory. Current seismicity of the territory, which is based on statistical analysis of registered here seismic events of different strength, was analyzed. Released total seismic energy for each individual block was counted. In the result general patterns of seismotectonic activity and certain spatial patterns of seismicity of Viraayots-Karabakh tectonic zone were highlighted, based on what strong earthquake prone blocks were selected.

DISPLAY OF NIVATION AND SOLIFLUCTION IN THE VICINITIES OF SERIES OF THE HIGH MOUNTAIN LAKES OF ARMENIA

    V.R. Boynagryan
    View PDF
    Abstract

For the first time, comprehensive studies were conducted on four high-mountain lakes of Armenia to study their bathymetry, bottom sediment composition, geomorphological structure of basins and the spread of nivation and solifluction processes associated with altitudinal zonation and the presence of seasonal permafrost. It is noted that solifluction is better manifested on the slopes of slag cones (loose friable soil), and the displacement of chingils on steep slopes of volcanic lava flows.
