Author Guidelines

All manuscripts must be submitted in Word (.doc) or (.docx) format and must conform to ArmJIL’s style guidelines. ArmJIL follows the Oxford Standard for the Citation of Legal Authorities (OSCOLA), latest edition. Contributors are required to ensure that all references conform strictly to OSCOLA conventions.

Footnotes should be used for citations; endnotes are not permitted. OSCOLA is a footnote-based referencing system and does not require a bibliography, although a table of cases and a table of legislation may be included where appropriate.

Citations should appear in footnotes at the bottom of each page, numbered consecutively. Subsequent references to the same source should use short-form citations in accordance with OSCOLA rules. The use of ibid is permitted, but op. cit. and loc. cit. should not be used.

Titles of books and journals should be italicised. Case names should be italicised. Treaties, conventions, resolutions, and other international instruments should be cited by their official titles, dates of adoption, and relevant treaty series or document numbers, where applicable.

For international legal materials, authors should cite:

  • International court and tribunal decisions using the official law reports where available;
  • Treaties by reference to the United Nations Treaty Series (UNTS)or other authoritative treaty series;
  • United Nations documents by their official document symbols.

Authors are responsible for the accuracy and completeness of all citations. Submissions that do not conform to OSCOLA may be returned for revision prior to peer review.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • This submission meets the requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • This submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  • All references have been checked for accuracy and completeness.
  • All tables and figures have been numbered and labeled.
  • Permission has been obtained to publish all photos, datasets and other material provided with this submission.

Under this license, authors retain ownership of the copyright for their publications, while granting ArmJIL and Yerevan State University Publishing House a non-exclusive license to publish the work in paper and electronic form and allow anyone to reuse, distribute and reproduce the content as long as the original work is properly cited. Appropriate attribution can be provided by simply citing the original work. No permission is required from the authors or the publishers.
