Author Guidelines

Requirements and necessary conditions for the submission of the articles to the journal “History and Culture”

Articles for publication are submitted through journals.ysu.am, where authors must register and upload their articles (Register | History and Culture. Journal of Armenian Studies (ysu.am)).

Articles should be submitted in two separate Word files, one containing the text of the article and the other - information about the author.

The file about the author should contain the following information:

  1. author’s name, surname, patronymic, academic degree, scientific title, place of work and position (including the case of postgraduate students and students) in Armenian, Russian and English, and if the article is in another language, then also in the original language of the article;
  2. the title of the article should not be entirely in capital letters in Armenian, Russian and English, and if the article is in another language, then also in the original language of the article (not, ARMENIAN PUBLIC THOUGHT ABOUT THE IRISH NATIONAL MOVEMENT OF 1840, but Armenian Public Thought on the Irish National Movement of the 1840s);
  3. The e-mail address of the author and telephone number, moreover, all other information except the telephone number will be published.

All this information should be filled in when uploading the article in the relevant fields provided by journals.ysu.am (in three languages).

The conditions for pre-acceptance of the articles are:

  1. a) compliance with the format of the journal (topic, style, scientific system);
  2. b) not published elsewhere previously;
  3. c) the content with a certain novelty;
  4. d) methodological substantiation;
  5. e) the existence of an appropriate scientific apparatus;
  6. f) clear structure;
  7. g) compliance with the specified technical requirements.

    Requirements for the text of the article
  8. The text of the article should not contain the author’s name or other information necessary to identify him (for example, in case of self-referencing it should not be mentioned: we have referred to in our previous works, as well as reference to his/her own works), as the article will be sent for an anonymous review.
  9. The article should have summaries and keywords: Armenian (Ամփոփում), Russian (Резюме) and English (Abstract), volume: 150-200 words. The contents of the abstracts written in different languages ​​should be consistent with each other. The abstracts should match the content of the text and be presented in a narrative and non-annotational way (i.e. the same text should be briefly presented). It is necessary to translate the author’s name and the title of the article. The abstracts are followed by the keywords (Ключевые слова, Key words) - 7-10.
  10. The article should have a clear structure and be divided into several parts: introduction, subheadings, conclusions, moreover, the section called introduction should indicate what the scientific novelty of the article is, the urgency of the topic and its importance. It is necessary to present the degree of study of the topic and the research methodology.
  11. The article should consist of 2500-6000 words, including abstracts, appendices, pictures, tables and other components;
  12. Presentation form – by electronic carrier (Word is preferred for the text, images in TIFF or high JPEG format with high definition). Do not use hyphens in the text.
  13. Language - Armenian or English.
  14. Font - Sylfaen (text and abstracts - 12, footnotes - 10 font size).
  15. Dimensions - A4 paper margins from all sides: 3.25 (top), 3.00 (bottom), 2.25 (right, left) cm, line spacing - multiple 1.15.
  16. Photos - submit drawings, black-and-white and color photos in separate files (JPEG or TIFF), called as sequential units (fig. /tab. 1, 2, 3…), not less than 300 DPI (photos) and 600 DPI (drawings) density. Attach a “List of Pictures” to the pictures, with an explanation of each, with a link to the picture source in parentheses. Images without internet link are not accepted.
  17. Tables should be created in Microsoft Word, with a title and number.
  18. References should be given only in the text (references are not made in the footnote).

- Book - surname of the author, date of publication and page (Martirosyan, 1971, 89).

- Collective monograph - surnames of the authors, date and page of publication (Martirosyan, Mnatsakanyan, 1973, 118).

- Article – author’s last name, date of publication and page (Abrahamyan, 2018, 95).

- Periodical – if there is an author: surname, first name, name of the periodical, date of publication, page (Artsruni Grigor, Mshak, 7․12-1876, 2),

- in the absence of the author, the name, number, page of the periodical (Mshak, 11․4․1879, 4)

- Archive - the name of the archive, the fund number, the list number, the case number, the paper number (NAA, f ․ 113, l ․ 1, c ․ 20, p․ 2).

- Matenadaran – Matenadaran’s name, manuscript number, paper (MM 3813, p. 265a).

- Source - author, year, page (Movses Khorenatsi 1913, 296).

- Internet link – if there is an author - surname, first name, the title of the article or publication (Petros Poghosyan, Azerbaijan's anti-Armenian aspirations),

- in case of the absence of the author, the title of the article or publication (Arab Spring in Tunisia).

- Field ethnographic material - abbreviation, year, page (FEM, 1972, 46).

- Oral testimony - the last name, first name, date of the person who is the source of the information (Petros Petrosyan, July 15, 2018).

- If you use more than one source in one link, use “;” (SAA, f․ 1, l․1, c․ 1, p․ 5; Martirosyan, 1971, 89).

- In case of several works of the same author in the same year, write “a, b, c” next to the year. (Martirosyan, 1975a, 128). If different authors with the same surname have works published in the same year, it is necessary to mention the first letter of the name (D. Simonyan, 1995, 245).

  1. The list of the literature

After the text, the author's surname, the first letter of the name, year of publication, the title, place of publication, printing house, page should be mentioned in alphabetical order. Publishers of books and collections also should be mentioned, and in case of periodicals - places of publication. In the case of collections, the names of the editors are written.

- The book - Ormanian M. 2011, Azgapatum, v. B, published by Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin Etchmiadzin, 3894 pages.

- The article - Grekyan E. 2021, The "bilingual" inscription of upper Anzaf and some issues of the Urartian weight system, Journal of Social Sciences “Lraber”, N 1, pp. 12-27.

- The series - Martirosyan H. A., Israelyan H. R. 1971, Petroglyphs of Geghama Mountains, Archaeological Monuments of Armenia, vol. 6, Yerevan, "Armenian SSR Academy of Sciences Publishing House", 65 pages.

- Collection - Hayrapetyan T. 2014, The sub-ethnic layers of the resettled Armenians in the Khachenaget valley, edited by R. Karapetyan, K. Nalbandyan, S. Barseghyan, Armenian ethnicity in its own foreign environment. Problems, research experiments and perspectives, Yerevan, Publishing House “Gitutyun”, pp. 44-51.

- Primary source - Movses Khorenatsi 1913, History of Armenia, original and introduction by M. Abeghian and S. Harutyunyan, Tpghis, "Aragatip M. Mardirosians ", 396 pages.

- When referring to the source, press and archive, try to follow the same principle.

 

After the presentation of the list of abstracts, under the phrase "REFERENCES" it is necessary to attach the Latin transliteration version of the used non-Latin literature, arranging it in alphabetical order, indicating the original language in brackets, for example:

 

- Ormanean M. 2011, Azgapatum, h. B, hrat. Mayr Ator ’S. Ejmiac’in. (in Armenian)

 

  1. Notes are given in footnotes. When referring to sources, it is necessary to indicate them in parentheses, as in the case of references. Please avoid lengthy text annotations as much as possible.

 

Posting of the Article

To submit a new article, you need to click on the "Submissions" button after entering the above field, and then the "New Submission" that appears on the right. In the "Section" you have to choose the language, what kind of material you want to publish - article, review or publication. After that, it is necessary to indicate in all the boxes that the material you send meets the necessary requirements (it has not been published before, meets technical requirements, etc.). You need to select "Article Text", then click on "Upload File" below, select your article file, then click the "Continue" button. Then you can edit the file name with the "Edit" button. IT SHOULD NOT CONTAIN YOUR NAME-SURNAME, as it will be sent for review. At the end of this operation you need to click the "Continue" button. After that the system will allow you to add an additional file. Then you have to click the "Continue" button again, then the "Save and Continue" button. A window will open where you have to write the title of the article (in three languages), then paste the summary (in three languages), in which again your personal data, keywords (in three languages) should not be mentioned. After typing each keyword, you must press the "Enter" button so that the system will perceive it as a separate keyword, otherwise all keywords will be perceived as one word. In the "References" section, place the list of literature, then click "Save and Continue". Then in the opened window you have to click the "Finish Submmision" button, after which the system will ask if you want to confirm. You have to click "OK". You will then receive an email from the editorial office stating that your article has been registered.

 

Printing schedule

The Journal in the field of Armenian Studies “History and Culture” is published twice a year, and the articles will be accepted, reviewed and published according to the following schedule.

Acceptance of the articles

For the 1st issue: until March 25 of the current year (will be published until June 30), and from 2023, until February 1.

For the 2nd issue: until September 25 of the current year (will be published until December 30), and from 2023 until August 1.

Within a week after the submission of the article, the fulfillment of the necessary requirements and compliance with the criteria presented in the text is checked, then it is sent for review, and within two weeks the two reviewers submit their opinions, which are immediately sent to the author. Then the author has to make corrections within two weeks, submit the final version of the article. If additional time is needed for the correction of the article, it should be agreed with the editor-in-chief of the journal (depending on the time of publication; additional time may be given to the author or it may be published in the next issue). In case of disagreement with the reviewer’s comments, the author should submit his/her objections in written form to the editor, after which the editorial board has the right to determine the expediency of publishing the article.

Articles that do not meet the technical requirements will not be submitted for review until the article with all its required components (including filling in the relevant upload fields) does not meet the requirements.

Additional requests and instructions

- In case of the submission of a book review article, in addition to emphasizing the positive aspects of the work, it is also necessary to mention critical points. The reviewer submits to the editorial office a copy of the book under review.

- Mark the centuries in Armenian and Russian in Latin (XI), in English and in other languages ​​using Arabic (11th) numbers.

- Use Italic for the underlining in the text and make the subtitles bold.

- Use a brief y. for the year and not a numerical, and write y. separately (from 1980); write non-abbreviated from year (s), with year (s), the year (s).

- Use quotation marks in this form: "…" (Armenian, Russian, French), “…” (English), „…“ (German).

- Brackets should be round: () and non-linear: // or [].

- Use the union line in all places (in the lower case -, not –).

- Summarize the book units as follows: v. (volume), ch. (chapter of a book), b. (book).

- When referring to a picture / table in the text, use their abbreviations in capital letters (Fig. 30/2, Tb. III / 1).
