    HOVHANNES TUMANYAN BY THE EVALUATION OF RUSSIAN TRANSLATORS (30-60S OF XX CENTURY)

    Abstract

    The article analyzes the opinions of russian translators Vera Zvyagintseva, Samuil Marshak and Sergey Shervinsky on the poetry of Hovhannes Tumanyan. The research material shows that the authors have mainly expressed very interesting, important ahd specific thoughts about the essence and peculiarities of Tumanjans work, emphasizing the world value of the Armenian poet. There are persuasive theses ahd some inaccuracies (in S. Shervinskys article) that are being challenged.

    LONGFELLO–BUNIN–TUMANYAN: "THE SONG OF HIAWATHA".

    Abstract

    The paper is devoted to one of the best translations by H. Tumanyan, the fragment from Longfellow’s The Song of Hiawatha. It illustrates in details for the first time the premises, motives and circumstances which affected the poet’s decision to initiate this translation. The paper also describes the connection with one of the masterpieces of the Russian translation art: Hiawatha by Ivan Bunin, as well as the features and principles of Tumanyan’s activity as a translator of works of art.

    CONCERNING MARINA TSVETAEVA’S CREATIVE WORKBOOKS.

    Abstract

    The paper presents the results of the work on the publication of materials from Marina Tsvetaeva’s archive, available at the moment. It is focused on the last (1918) valuable scientific edition of the draft workbooks having a fundamental
    importance for the research of the poetess’s creation, as well as the comprehension of her creative process. The mentioned edition in 2 volumes presents draft workbooks from 1919 and 1919-1921, with the prospect of making it the first part of “Creative Workbooks” project which shall gather materials from different phases of creation. The author brings convincing examples from her own experience, highlighting how the information contained in workbooks contributes to research.

    ALEXANDER MEZHIROV IN THE DIARY ENTRIES OF LEVON MKRTCHYAN

    Abstract

    The paper follows a number of articles, published earlier in “The Bulletin of Yerevan University. Russian Philology” under the single title “From the Archives of Levon Mkrtchyan”. The archive of literary critic, professor of the Yerevan State University specialized in translation studies, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia L. Mkrtchyan (1933-2001) preserves numerous texts and documents which, in particular, highlight L. Mkrtchyan’s literary contacts, remarkable for the examination of Armenian-Russian literary-cultural links from the second half of the XX century. The presented diary entries testify the nature and contents of his long communication with the famous Russian poet and poetry translator Alexander Mezhirov (1923-2009), including the latter’s high interest towards “The Book of Lamentations” by Narekatsi.

    Abstract

     I. Brodsky’s poem “Autumn in Norenskaya”, traditionally perceived as a landscape sketch, not only correlates with the tradition of the theme of autumn in Russian literature, but is also directly related to Baratynsky’s poem “Autumn”, therefore the unwritten death of Poet determines the intonation of this poem. This is shown in the article by means of a detailed analysis of rhythmic and imaginative structure of the verse.

    Abstract

    The article is devoted to the three types of refracted reality: 1) hidden reality (the category of default), 2) changed reality (concept “deception”), 3) unsaid and – as a result – unchanged reality (silence). We suppose that Dovlatov’s heroes prefer the passive type of lie – silence.
