Abstract

The political and public opinion of Turkey reacted sensitively to the steps taken by the leadership of the ruling Justice and Development Party in Turkey to promote Football Diplomacy. On the one hand in the course of Football Diplomacy (2008-2011) the Turkish press had been writing about Armenia and the issue of normalizing relations with it most of all, but on the other hand, it was obvious that the Turkish socio-political opinion was not ready to normalize relations with Armenia without any pre-conditions, remaining hostage to the political moods dominating in Azerbaijan. It is worth noting that even though there were individual supporters of normalizing relations with Armenia in Turkey of the period in question or later on, their voice was much weaker than the voice of the supporters of linking the normalization process with the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement and its staging in front of Armenia as a precondition.
