Роль Японии в оказании помощи армянам и в развитии ряда отраслей экономики Армении

Сохранившиеся сведения об армяно-японских сношениях датируются началом XIX века. В основном двухсторонние отношения носили коммерческий характер.
Япония всегда внимательно следила за судьбой армян и, начиная еще с 1890-х годов, японская пресса регулярно освещала массовые погромы в Османской империи, геноцид армян 1915 года.
В 1922 г. в Японии был открыт первый международный фонд гуманитарной помощи, возглавляемый Эйчи Шибусавой. Целью деятельности фонда являлось предоставление помощи армянам, выжившим после геноцида.
Неоценима также помощь Японии после Спитакского землетрясения 1988 года.
После распада Советского Союза и восстановления независимости в Армении, армяно-японские отношения ограничивались только экономической помощью, предоставляемой Японией в виде грантов, кредитов и технического оборудования. Вид предоставляемой помощи определялся поэтапно, в силу стабилизации экономики Армении и роста ВВП. В связи с этим, в статье рассматривается трёхэтапная экономическая политика Японии по отношению к Армении, начиная с 1992 года.
C 2018 года наблюдается тенденция к равноправному партнерству в сфере экономики и развития взаимовыгодных экономических отношений между Японией и Арменией.
