    K. D. Balmont in the Reception of A. A. Izmailov

    Abstract

    This article is based on A. Izmajlov’s and K. Balmont’s correspondence (1907-1915). Izmailov is known as a gifted parodist of modernist literature. He reacted very negatively to the first experience of the emerging trends. Over time, his views on literary modernists products have undergone a certain evolution. This article provides an overview of critical reviews of the Balmont’s poetry. It allows to correct the widespread belief about Izmailov as an irreconcilable opponent of modernist literature.

    Leonid Grigorian’s Letters

    Abstract

    Leonid Grigorian (1929-2010) is a poet and translator of Armenian poetry and French prose. He was born in Rostov-on-Don
    and lived in this city all his life. His poems were regularly published in popular magazines "Novy mir", "Znamya", "Zvezda" etc., reviews on his books were written by leading Russian critics. L. Grigorian translated (from the interlinear translation) the poems of Armenian poets, including R. Davoyan, G. Emin and H. Shiraz, as well as our French-writing compatriots Armen Lubin and Vahé Godel. The stories, novels and dramas of A. Camus and J. P. Sartre, as well as Vahé Katcha's novel "Dagger in the Garden", dedicated to the Armenian genocide, were published in magazines and books. Тhe letters to his Yerevan friend Georgi Koubatian describe some of the circumstances of his literary biography, contain a number of original thoughts and appraisals.

    Impersonality as reflection of Russian mentality

    Abstract

    The article is devoted to the some Russian constructions, where the subject is presented as non-controlling the situation, obeying to some irrational force, circumstances. After comparing these meanings with Armenian and English constructions we suppose that impersonality can be considered as the characteristics of Russian linguoculture.

    Abstract

    The paper follows a number of other papers, earlier published in this magazine under the single title “From the Archives of Levon Mkrtchyan” (2015 №№ 1-3; 2018, № 1). The author presents materials, in which Armenian connections and impressions of Fedor Abramov (1920-1983) – one of the best Russian prose-writers in decades 1950-1970  are reflected. Diary notes of L.Mkrtchyan, made on the public meeting with the writer in the Yerevan State University, their correspondence, other documents are published. Special attention is attached to friendly and creative contacts of F.Abramov and S.Kaputikyan.
