Negotiations of the Delegation of the Republic of Armenia with Turkish Political and State Figures and Press Representatives in Constantinople (June-July 1918)

Abstract

The article analyzes the activities of the delegation of the Republic of Armenia, which was in Constantinople from June 22 to July 3, 1918, evaluates the effectiveness of negotiations with the Turkish authorities regarding the solution of the Armenian Question. In this regard, the diplomatic steps of the Armenian delegation are highlighted, the purpose of which was to continue previous diplomatic meetings and negotiations with high-ranking officials of the military-political leadership of Ottoman Turkey and a number of other ministers. The article also considers that the first diplomatic meetings and negotiations of the Armenian delegation with high-ranking officials of the military and political leadership of Ottoman Turkey and well-known representatives of the press did not have a favorable course for resolving the Armenian Question. It was obvious that the Turks gave vague or evasive diplomatic answers to questions of concern to the Armenian side or rejected them. They often exerted diplomatic pressure on the members of the Armenian delegation under various pretexts.
